For a short time I was doing some selling on Ebay, including some fishing tackle; hooks and line and such.
I made this site ad a marketing vehicle to drive traffic to my ebay listings. It was fairly simple with a wordpress plugin for everything.
My brief time on ebay taught me that while they’re undoubtedly good at what they do, and the built in market is enormous, I really don’t like the ebay business model. It works out well for the shareholders, but end users pay huge fees for a service that is almost entirely automated.
These days I’m working slowly and steadily on building a different kind of ecommerce platform, intended to create independent sellers, not sellers dependent on a market.
By leveraging wordpress and other open source tools I believe it’s possible to provide all the tools needed for ecommerce at a reasonable flat rate far below the fees of most major online marketplaces.
